Google goes Behavioral with its AdSense

google_smGoogle has launched their new AdSense rollout which will display ads to users based on their previous online habits. This will be huge for online advertisers because this means that users are more likely to click on your ads. What google is doing here is they are using your web search history, browsing history, and everything at their disposal to see what kind of webpages you are interested in, and displaying ads for that content.

You can opt out to be part of this program if you want. Users will not see ads based on anything personal. Even though Users can opt out of this, I doubt that many will. If you are okay with all the information that google has about you already, this shouldn’t be a big leap at all.

Sure this is not something new to online advertising, however it’s a big step for google, and for it’s users. It will be interesting to see how this develops. Please comment with your views on this, tell me if you want to see Ads based on your browsing habits!

Check out their blog for more.

Personally, I don't care much for any adds, but for a lot of sites and blogs these are only or one of the major sources of income, so, if they have to be there on the site, it's a good thing that the adds are more user oriented because it makes the whole experience a bit less annoying :)

I think this surely is a step forward for all those that use adsense... it gives your users a better experience than before. Although, there could be (and I imagine, there are) some bad sides about it, like less control over the adds displayed and stuff like that. I think it's a step forward for the users, who have to see the adds on your pages anyway, this way they should see something that interests them more, but for site owners, I think. at least in the beginning, there would be some awkward situations... but, let's see what happens.
For your visitors / users this is a step forward, but for site owners, marketing just got a bit trickier.
